If you are looking to entry and exist the UK and all other countries around the world, then British citizens are required to have a passport. The Visa Team can support with obtaining and renewing existing passports. Please visit our Passport page for further details.

For most countries, your passport will be required to obtain a visa. A travel stamp will be issued inside your passport, which will be checked at immigration at your country of destination.

You will be granted a passport that has 10 years validity, if you obtain it when you are 16 years or older. If you have a passport that is issued when you are 15 years or younger, then your passport is valid for only 5 years.

When you receive you new passport, your old one will also be returned to you, unless it is categorised as damaged by the UK Identity and Passport Service. They will clearly make the passport recognised as invalid. It is important to advise them, when completing the renewal application if any visas within your passport remain valid.

Most countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months before the will issue a visa. if your passport expires before that, you must apply for a renewal.

Additional pages cannot be added to your passport. You would be required to apply for a new passport.

It is important that passports have enough blank pages in order to accommodate entry and exit stamps given at immigration for each country of destination and a page will also be required for each visa.
